R 2004 ‧ Horror/Western ‧ 1h 31m
Directed by: Alex Turner
Dead Birds is a gripping blend of horror and western genres. The story follows a group of Confederate soldiers who rob a bank and flee towards Mexico. They decide to take shelter for the night in an abandoned farmhouse, only to discover that it harbors demonic activity. The film's ominous music builds tension throughout, making the second half increasingly sinister.
The acting is solid, making the characters' desperation and fear believable. The special effects, while simple, are effectively used to enhance the eerie atmosphere. The film's climax is satisfying, although you might see the ending coming.
Overall, if you're a fan of horror-western crossovers, Dead Birds is worth a watch.
My rating: 7/10
